Christmas program: The Christmas Program will be Sat. Dec. 3, time TBA. The show will be held at South Middle School and will be very informal. Costuming is very basic. Students wear their class attire. We let you borrow some costume extras. The kids have a great time! There will be a sign up sheet at the counter several weeks before the show. Please sign up as early as possible so we can have plenty of time to get costumes together. Students must maintain good attendance in order to learn techniques and the routines for the show.
Rehearsal and Recital: Each dance year culminates in a themed-event featuring beautiful costumes, professional lighting and sound. It's always a big hit! Our show will be held at the Henderson Fine Arts Center - McCormick Hall. More information will be given out in March/April regarding t-shirts, tickets, DVDs, rehearsals, etc. Rehearsals this year will be Monday and Tuesday, May 21 and 22 and recital will be Thursday, May 24. Times TBA. Rehearsal is mandatory for performance.
Recital costumes: We order costumes early to get them in time for any alterations that might be needed. Costumes must be paid for by the deadline (Thurs. Jan. 5, 2012) to get in on the bulk order. Costumes are expected to cost $55-70 for child sizes and $55-75 for adult sizes. If you miss the costume deadline, a special order can be made for an additional $20.00.
Recital Seating for students: Students will sit with their group in the student section at the Christmas show and with their group backstage at the recital for the entire show, regardless of their age. They will not be able to sit with family in the audience after performing. At these shows, we ask that all parents stay in the audience rather than come into the student section or backstage.
Participation in the shows: If a student will not be in one of the shows, please let the teacher know as soon as possible so that she can re-work the routine for one less student. If at all possible, students should be encouraged to finish the commitment that has been made to the teacher, the other students, and the show. It is unfair to everyone to have someone drop out after the routine is finished. That changes everyone's part.
Taking class but not performing: While performing is part of your training, it's not the only part. Dancers should finish the year whether or not they are doing the show. Not finishing the year will likely affect dance technique and could possibly affect placement for the following season.
